These companies will look for a two year history of stable blood pressure readings, whether treated with medication or untreated. Individuals with hypertension who remain untreated will likely be surcharged especially if extra weight or smoking is involved.
Best Class:
A history of hypertension will preclude Preferred Best, the lowest premium classification with most companies. Preferred, the second lowest premium classification, may be available if a favorable history exists.
Solutions:
1. Shop around. Some companies will not offer preferred even if a favorable treatment history exists.
2. Pay a surcharge for the risk. This may be unavoidable based on your history.
